THE CARMINE.

In further addressing the ongoing housing crisis, the design of this building relied primarily on a simplified structure and envelope, challenging the traditional notion that architectural expression is solely reliant on the manipulation of massing.

Instead, a surface pattern was introduced as a means to achieve visual variety and complexity. This perspective highlights the versatility of architecture as an art form, drawing parallels to other three-dimensional art forms such as fashion and sculpture, which leverage surface patterns to enrich their compositions.

Treating its façade with an array of colours and finishes, generated an inventive and completely unique building in context. The soft, evolving pattern added a welcome layer of nuance to an otherwise very pure mass, without compromising the outward sincerity of that same purity.
